BERRY BITS: Fatal accident may spur change

A fatal accident involving a westbound motorist exiting the exit 19 ramp of the Long Island Expressway and striking an illegally parked tractor trailer may be the final straw. CB5, DOT and the NYPD are now working together to come up with a serious solution to prevent trucks from parking on the service road shoulder. Overnight commercial parking in residential areas is prohibited, but truckers have long taken advantage of the lack of enforcement and parked their rigs there overnight. This is a very dangerous area to park a vehicle as traffic exiting the expressway has the right of way 24/7.
