"Maspeth: Long May She Wave"

On a sun drenched Labor Day afternoon the citizens of Maspeth roared their approval as the service flag was stretched across 72nd Street off Grand Avenue. Patriotism was at an all-time high on September 7th, 1942 as members of the community serving in the armed forces had their names displayed on the flag.

Noise Abatement Amendment Passes

Today U.S. Citizens Aviation Watch Association (US.CAWA), an international coalition of municipalities and community groups formed to oppose aviation noise and pollution, announced that the amendment to House Resolution 1654,The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Authorization Act of 1999, passed 223-203, in the United States Congress.

The History of the Morrell House

As early as 1663 Thomas Morrell, an Englishman whose family held an honorable position among England's landed gentry, came to the New World. He married Hannah Glen and settled in parts of Newtown now called Middle Village. At that time all of Newtown was a dense wilderness where, besides Indians, only wolves and other wild animals lived.

Community News

A rally of concerned parents and local residents was held on Monday, August 16th at 69th Place and 60th Avenue. Over 100 residents expressed their outrage over the dangerous speeding conditions and lack of adequate traffic controls along this very treacherous road.
