BERRY BITS: New liquor license procedure being considered by CB5

The partygoers from Manhattan and Brooklyn are on their way. They started out on the Lower East Side, but when that got too expensive, they crossed the river to Williamsburg. Then they moved over to Bushwick, and now poor Ridgewood is about to bear the brunt of the quality of life problems that come along with being "the next hot neighborhood. In an attempt to minimize the impact on Ridgewood and surrounding neighborhoods, the Public Safety Committee of Queens Community Board 5, chaired by JPCA President Robert Holden, proposed, reviewed and recommended that a stricter liquor license vetting procedure now in use by Brooklyn Community Board 1 (Williamsburg & Greenpoint) be examined by the full board. The new process would require that the licensee provide detailed building and operational plans to the board so that members will have more complete information before casting a vote on a liquor license application.
